What changed for Leagues of Votann in 11th edition

11th edition gave the Leagues of Votann a light-touch pass rather than a shake-up. A small number of changes — mostly minor five-point moves in either direction — plus three brand-new characters are the sum of it. If you played the Kin in 10th, your collection carries over almost untouched, and the roster comes out of the transition in a fairly stable place.

Summary

Detachments

The one genuinely new thing to learn is Detachment Points. Detachments are no longer free: each now costs points out of your army total, scaling with game size — 2 at Incursion, 3 at Strike Force, 4 at Onslaught. That's a fresh budgeting step on top of picking units. Beyond that overhead, the Kin gained three new detachments — Armoured Trailblazers, Farseekers, and Hearthguard Covenant — while your 10th-edition options all carry over as they were, with none removed.

New in 11th: Armoured Trailblazers, Farseekers, Hearthguard Covenant. None removed.

Points changes

The unit-level picture is quiet: eight datasheets were repriced — two up, six down — and the moves are small, mostly a flat five points. On the cheaper side, the Einhyr Champion and a full unit of Einhyr Hearthguard each shed 5, both flavours of Ironkin Steeljacks (Heavy Volkanite Disintegrators and Melee Weapons) came down 5 per unit, and the Sagitaur dropped 5. Balancing that, three new characters join the roster with no 10th-edition equivalent — the Kinhost Commander, the Living Ancestor and the Steeljack Elder. Note some units are priced per squad size, so check the tier you actually field.

Biggest increases

Are Hekaton Land Fortress still worth it?

The biggest single increase in the faction, up 10 points. That's a real tax, but it lands on the army's marquee transport-gunboat — the kind of centrepiece you buy because you want it hauling Kin across the board, not because the maths demands it. If it earned its slot in your 10th-edition lists, the extra 10 won't change that; if it was only there to soak points, this is the nudge to reconsider.

Are Arkanyst Evaluator still worth it?

Up 5 points, which is barely a rounding error at the army level. This remains a support-character pick whose value is in what it enables around it rather than its own footprint, so 5 points won't be the deciding factor. Take it if it fits your plan; the price bump is noise.

Frequently asked questions

Did the Leagues of Votann get better in 11th edition?

On balance, slightly — more units got cheaper than got dearer, so most Kin lists can field a touch more for the same points than they could at the end of 10th. The shifts are small, though, so don't expect a transformed faction. It came through the transition stable and marginally more flexible rather than dramatically stronger.

What changed for Leagues of Votann points in 11th edition?

Not much, and that's the story. Eight datasheets were repriced — six down, two up — with most moves a flat five points. Staples like the Einhyr Champion, Einhyr Hearthguard, both Ironkin Steeljacks builds and the Sagitaur each came down 5, while only the Hekaton Land Fortress and Arkanyst Evaluator rose. Everything else held steady.

How do Detachment Points work for Leagues of Votann in 11th edition?

Detachment Points are a new 11th-edition layer: your chosen detachment now costs points out of your army total, scaling with game size — 2 at Incursion, 3 at Strike Force, and 4 at Onslaught. Every Leagues of Votann detachment pays the same rate, so it's a flat overhead you budget for before you start picking units.

What are the new Leagues of Votann characters in 11th edition?

Three characters join the Kin with no 10th-edition equivalent: the Kinhost Commander at 65, the Living Ancestor at 70 and the Steeljack Elder at 80. They're the roster's main additions this transition, giving you fresh leader options to slot into existing lists without changing much else about how the army plays.

Is now a good time to start a Leagues of Votann army?

It's a fine moment. Several units are a little cheaper, the range is stable, and there are three new characters to build around. If you've been eyeing the Kin, the 11th-edition points make a starter force no harder — and slightly easier — to build toward. See the Starting a Leagues of Votann Army guide for a buying order.
